Community Research

Here at Southampton Collective, we are keen to see communities at the heart of all conversations about Southampton's future and people's lives here in the city. We want to make sure that all decisions and services are reflecting the lived experience of residents and those most impacted.

We get involved in various projects that help further these aims.

In 2025, we delivered training to a group of researchers, including resident researchers recruited from Southampton communities for University of Southampton's Faculty of Medicine around hosting community conversations. We also helped to facilitate a session with HDRC Southampton in Inner City Southampton, so local residents could set their prioirities when it comes to future research in the area.  HDRC Southampton is all about the conditions where we live, work and play, and how these influence our health and wellbeing, and making sure that better evidence is leading to better decisions that will genuinely help people to live healthier lives. Green and Open spaces was chosen as an important theme by Inner City Southampton residents, and this has led to more involvement for us in the future.

In 2026, we are now helping to facilitate sessions with local residents, community organisations, Southampton City Council and others, around Green Safe Open Spaces in the city. If this interests you, please come get in touch with HDRC@southampton.gov.uk or check out our events page.
